Oral hygiene

nobelsmile oral hygieneTaking good care of your teeth is a bit like playing sports: if you keep at it, it doesn't take long to see results. And as of today, the effort is really worth it for you, because your new implants will be a major contribution to your quality of life.

Rinsing your mouth
In the first few days following implant treatment, rinsing your mouth is priority one. At this point, you need to protect the sensitive wound, so don't use your toothbrush!

Right after the implant procedure, wait for any bleeding to stop, then make sure to rinse your mouth at least three times a day after eating, for a full minute.

You dentist may prescribe an appropriate oral rinse, usually containing chlorhexidine gluconate. After the first week, try alternating your rinses with saltwater.

Optimal care of your new teeth
Normally, on the fourth day after your surgery, you should be able to go back to brushing your teeth regularly and thoroughly.
Using your electric toothbrush at this point should be fine, but if you're unsure, use an extra soft toothbrush for your implants in the first few weeks or contact your clinician to discuss your options.

Dental floss and interdental brushes
Bacteria occurs in the tight spaces between teeth, but with good, regular care, you can keep them under control. Your dentist or dental hygienist will happily show you how to use dental floss and interdental brushes. You can get started with this regime approximately 4 weeks after your implant treatment.

Above all, follow you dentist's recommendations!
